The DeSoto County Museum, operated by the Historic DeSoto Foundation, is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich history of DeSoto County, Mississippi. Our mission is to educate the public—including visitors and local students—about the region's past by collecting, preserving, and displaying artifacts and exhibits.
Our purpose is to provide an immersive, educational experience that covers key periods and events in the county's history, from the arrival of Hernando DeSoto and his interactions with Native Americans to the Civil War, the agricultural and social development of the area, and notable local figures. We strive to be a cultural hub that promotes understanding and appreciation for the unique heritage of DeSoto County, ensuring that its stories and legacies are preserved for future generations.
