Jackson George Regional Library System

The Singing River Genealogy and Local History Library is a special library with the Jackson-George Regional Library System. Our mission is to provide genealogical resources pertaining to the south-eastern United States, and to provide historical resources and information on the Jackson and George counties of Mississippi that will better inform and enrich the communities we serve.

Singing River shares materials offering patrons a look into the genealogical and historical background of Jackson and George counties. Collections such as the Jackson County School records, and the Joann Anderson Slides collection provide unique looks into the history of our communities.

Rex A Moore Photographs (2017.10)

Patrons are advised that this collection contains materials that depict segregation and racism.

Over 190 photographs depicting the 50th anniversary celebrations of the International Paper Moss Point Mill, in Moss Point, MS. Celebrations may have occurred over several days in June 1948.

Brenda Brentz Heinsch Papers (2020-03)

Letters, photographs, and ephemera recording daily activities and significant life events for Germans and German Americans in the late 1800s/early 1900s through the lens of the Breutz/Brentz-Hansen family of Germany and Escatawpa, MS. Heinsch's research provides insight into Germany’s social norms and class structure, prejudice towards Germans and German Americans, and poor living conditions in post-WWII Germany.

Hurricane Camille Photographs (2017.16)

Over 140 photographs were taken to document the damage done by Hurricane Camille along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The photographs were taken over August 18 through 20, 1969 by William T. Randall. The photographs depict damage along the Mississippi coast, but are focused in Jackson County.

Ralph Bandy Letters (2017.8)

Over 200 letters dated 1944-1955 to and from Ralph Bandy of Gautier. The correspondence gives first-hand accounts of life in the military and the home life of people during the WWII. Bandy's family consisted of many traveling carnival workers, and shows many of the hardships found on the home front.
